Towing under 50 metres




		Please note that it would be perfectly legal for an under-50 metre towing vessel to display the same lights as an “over-50 metre”. (These can be seen on the following page). However, the lights below are legal for an under-50 metre towing vessel and are based on normal navigation lights for an under-50 metre power vessel with the addition of one or two forward masthead lights and a yellow towing light.


	Please note that the “under 50 metres” phrase refers to the length of the vessel and not the length of the tow-line.

Memory Aids - “TOW” is composed of “TO” and a “W”. So you add TwO White lights to the normal vessel for a TwO hundred metre tow.

“TOW” ends in “OW” - the same as Yellow - so the vessel has a YellOW on the end (stern)
