Characteristics:-

  • Two Arrows point up.
  • Black upper section - yellow lower section.
  • Continuous quick Q or very quick flashing VQ

BY - for Black over Yellow.

Cardinal Buoys can be either Quick Flashing or Very Quick Flashing so that they can be distinguished when used in multiples - perhaps protecting a long sand bank for example.

Memory Aids:-

  • The two arrows point up or “towards North”.
  • The arrows always point to the black section - in this case the upper section
  • When you have learned the lights for the other three cardinals, this is the only odd one out!
